Calling for nominations for Mr. Bear Perth 2021

You are currently viewing Calling for nominations for Mr. Bear Perth 2021

Bears Perth Inc. is calling for nominees to represent Bears Perth in the coming year and to represent Bears Perth at the Mr Australasia Bear Festival.

This competition is not to find the most attractive, large, muscled or most hairy bear; the competition is instead to find the man that most typifies what a bear is in today’s ever-changing world. Someone who can uphold the values of self-confidence, masculinity, understanding and inclusiveness.

The title holder is expected to be an ambassador for the Bear community, promote a positive bear image, foster unity within the bear culture and be a role model for those new to the community. He must maintain an openness, respect, and willingness to work with all aspects of the LGBTIQ and wider communities.

Nominations and completed forms should be received no later than Friday 15th October 2021. If you have any questions, want to talk through with someone who has competed before, or are not sure if you are eligible to enter then we encourage you to reach out to us via one of the following methods:

"I entered the Mr Bear competition in 2020 more for personal growth reasons and to get out of my comfort zone. It was an absolutely amazing experience and I loved every minute of the events leading up to the competition night as well as getting on stage. I really enjoyed the experience and have forged some great friendships from being a part of Mr Bear. If you're thinking about entering, my advice would be not to overthink it, just do it. Get your entry in now."

"I entered Mr Bear Perth competition in 2019 to push myself out of my comfort zone, and basically show people its ok to be the shape you are. I want to give hope to new gay bears, or guys coming out or anyone in the LGBTQI+ community and existing gay guys to know it’s OK.
It’s ok to be who you are, it’s ok to cry, its ok to reach out to someone when you feel not ok. Being Mr Bear Perth 2019 has enabled me to reach out and able to be a voice to people who didn’t feel like they had one.
It was an amazing ride from start to finish, I have made some amazing friends along the way. And a privilege that I can share and help others."

"As the final winner of Mr West Oz Bear 2014, now known as Mr Bear Perth, I found the journey to be one of personal development, pushing out of my comfort zone, becoming less introverted and finding my place in the community.
The competition in all its guises, and especially the whirlwind weekend of the Underbear party and the actual competition created lasting memories and friendships which remain even today. The comradery between the contestants was an experience in itself, and we all came out of it changed in some way.
The competition to me was and remains a show of acceptance of men of all shapes and sizes, demonstrating to others that men can be comfortable with their appearance, gender and sexuality, and with a sense of humour and some stage fright. Next stop for me was Melbourne to compete in the Mr Australasia Bear. Again the experience of meeting and bonding with contestants from each State and New Zealand was unforgettable, and the week spent together allowed us to tell our stories first hand of coming out, discrimination, mental health and our experiences of the Bear, and more generally LGBTIQ community.
Overall this experience will be with me for life and the friendships I have formed over the years has been invaluable to who I am today in the Perth Gay Community."
